Hi,
my name is Jonah Horowitz and this is my History:(rough outline, more
later)
I was born in Aspen,
Colorado, just after Christmas (December 27th) on a stormy winter afternoon
in 1976. I lived for two years up towards Ashcroft on Castle Creek Rd
before moving (with my parents of course) to the house I really grew
up in. That house was between Snowmass and Aspen on Medicine Bow Rd.
Great house, only it was far away from all the bus routes so I had to
get my parents to drive me anywhere I needed to go, needless to say
they were less than thrilled when I stared to grow up, but I guess they
brought that one upon themselves. (but I'm getting ahead of myself...)
My younger brother
Yuri was born on a clear summer day, Fathers Day, June 15, 1980. The
only interesting thing that happened between those two events was during
the building of the house on Medicine Bow Road. There was a trap door
in my fathers (soon to be) office and one day during a construction
break I was wandering around and *poof* fell down the open hole. There
was no damage done (some of my friends will argue otherwise), but it
gave everyone there a sudden panic. Jared Rowe, one of the construction
workers there (who would much later become a friend of mine) rushed
to see if I was ok. I was happy as a clam down in the bottom of the
hole. Jared dissapeard several years back, so if anyone reading this
knows where he is please email
me, I would really like to get back in touch with him.
For my early
school years, I went to a school called Aspen Community School. It is
a pretty cool hippie environment where kids get to do cool things. I
can't say I learned much there, but we did have fun. I left there at
3rd grade to go into the Aspen Public School system. It is one of the
best public schools in the country. About the same time my parents decided
to split up. My father hung around in Aspen for a year before deciding
to move to Miami, Flordia. I would follow him towards the end of 5th
grade. My Mother and Yuri stayed in Aspen in the house on the hill.
I moved to Miami
to live with my Father; I ended up attending Miami Country Day School.
I had a great time in Miami, but at the end of 6th grade I convinced
My Father to move back to Aspen with me. To this day, I wonder how different
my life would have been if I had stayed in Miami, but so much for that.
I moved back
to Aspen for my 7th grade year, and started back in the Aspen Public
School system. I had my first real crush that year on a girl named Jenny
Anderson (she still hates me). I met back up with a friend of mine from
earlier on named Josh Wick. Josh was a crazy guy who liked running head
on into walls, but we were good friends and did some pretty crazy things
together. He moved away at the end of 8th grade to Boulder, Colorado,
and I have only seen him once since. The only other really notable thing
from middle school is that I hated my classes so much that I would sneak
away and go to the computer lab when I could. This is where I developed
my love for computers. The school had a "Talented and Gifted"
program, and through this I was introduced to Nick DeWolf. Nick is a
computer god. He is currently in sixties in but he still has long hair
and he still hacks around with computers every day. His accomplishments
are too numorus to list here, but something that everyone remembers
him for is that he designed the fountain in Aspen. This was just one
of his several really cool accomplishments. Anyway, Nick was set up
as my mentor, and that relationship continues to this day.
I still need
to put what happened through high school, and whatnot, but this is a
start...
